A security inspector of the European Union based in Sana’a was attacked around midnight by an armed group that took his car after beating him, a security source told The Yemen Observer.

The armed group hijacked the inspector on October 31 while driving in 50th St. The attackers stabbed him, took his Land cruiser and a considerable amount of money and ran away. The inspector, Methaq al-Sharjabi, is under intensive care in a hospital. Eyewitnesses said al-Sharjabi is still alive in spite of the many stabs he received.

The security source in Haddah area said that they later found the hijacked car in a nearby area along with that of the armed group. The armed group took a walkie-talkie from the EU car and left in Al-Eshash road, some few kilometers from the 5th St.

The plate of the armed group’s car was identified to be from Amran province, the source said. Security found the attackers’ car after it crashed into an electricity pylon.

Sana’a is witnessing a deteriorating security situation amid a rival confrontation in the north and center part of the capital. This is not the first incidents that took place in Sana’a, there were other incidents of the same sorts that happen in the capital from armed gangs that are exploiting the situation in Sana’a and practice their looting acts.
