Heavy confrontations gear up in Sana’a following president call for truce

Following president Saleh announced truce and called for singing a power transfer deal on Sunday, firce confrontations broke out between the security forces and between the defected army backed by te militias of Islah party and militias of Iman university and militias of Shiekh Hamid al-Ahmar in different parts of Sana’a.
The worst confrontations took place in Zubiri street, the most strategic street in Sana’a that divied the city into northern and southern parts.
Shells of tanks, mortars and missiles and heavy machine guns were heard clearly shaking Sana’a until 2 am.
No initial reports of casualties reported yet. However the bombardment that started afternoon calmed down at 2 am Sana’a local time.
Other confrontations took place at al-Hasaba zone between the al-Ahmar sons militias and between the security forces after the militias attacked the ministry of interior and the camp of the helping police camp, said the ministry of interior.
Sheikh al-Ahmar said that 18 of his tribesmen were killed and scores others were wounded.
Other confrontations broke out between al-Ahmar militias and between Sheikh Saqhir bin Aziz, sheikh of Harf Sufian tribe after al-Ahmar tribesmen attacked the latter’s house in Sofan complex to the north of Sana’a. Five people were killed and 8 others wounded in these confrontations.
The home of the deputy minister of information Abdu al-Janadi was shelled with two mortar shells on Friday night by the First Armor Division and militias said the ministry of interior.
Sana’a residents are stranded in their homes without water or any services for the past few days.
“No water in the taps for the past two weeks and we could not buy tanks of water because the roads are blocked , said Fuad al-Fudhaili from old city of Sana’a.
Most residents depend on water they can get from mosques but this water is not pure enough to drink.
