Tensions escalated in Yemen’s second largest city

Militias of Islah Islamist party launched offensives at al-Thawrah hospital and at the security check points as well as at the camp of the central security forces in Taiz city, said the website of the General People Congress Party ‘ Yemen’s ruling party’ on Monday.
The website alleged that the republican guards and the security forces rebuffed an offensive launched by the militia of Islah at al-Thawra hospital in Taiz.
The website attributed to eyewitnesses that the militia of Islah party commanded by MP Hamoud al-Mikhlafi and Sadiq Serhan fired at the security check points and at the office of the civil service in Taiz on Monday.
It added that eyewitnesses said that these militias fired extensively at Jurah mount where there is a number of military sites and at the camp of the central security forces at Al-Moshiki neighborhood in Taiz.
The reports could not be verified by an independent source.
Eyewitnesses said gun fire erupted at 7 am Sana’a local time at the site that was occupied by the defected army and protesters in the center of Sana’a yesterday.
Over 26 people were killed and tens wounded in addition an officer and 2 soldiers were killed and 65 others wounded in confrontations took place in the capital of Yemen yesterday.
