President Saleh calls for peaceful transfer of power

President of the Republic of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh called on all parties top come for peaceful transition of power to end the country's crisis and end months of unrest in that has killed the country's people and resources.

This call came in the President speech on Sunday on the 49th anniversary of the September 26, Revolution of 1962.

He said that all what is happening in Yemen now is for power and that he has had authorized the vice-president to engage in dialogue with the opposition and sign a transition deal and early elections. We are committed t the GCC Initiative to implement it as it is and sign it by VP Abdrabu Mansour Hadi, whose authorizations is still valid to engage in dialogue and sign the GCC deal with the opposition and agree on the mechanism of its implementation to help the country end this dangerous dilemma," said President Saleh.

He again called for dialogue that is the only way t help Yemen in this current crisis and said that presidential, parliamentary and local council elections would be held after an agreement is signed and said that he is still committed to the exact GCC deal He again supports a peaceful transfer of power through elections.

We assure our brothers in the GCC, that we are going to cooperate to completely implement the GCC Initiative. We also going to respond positively to the statements issued by the European Union, the White House, and the UN who all supports the presidential decree that authorized the VP to engage in dialogue with the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) and their allies that we are committed and we thank them all," added President Saleh.

President Saleh said that people in Yemen should have focused on building the country, not destroying it and frightening children and women just for power.

"I came back from Riyadh after I have spent more than 112 days under medical treatment and thank God I am ok and I will continue my treatment in the coming months. The VP have full authority and we are with legitimate demands from the youth and parties, however we are against coupes," President Saleh added.

He then said that the youth are the victims of those who urged them to be in front lines in the demonstrations and clashes with security. He said that the Yemeni Constitution gives rights of demonstrations, sit-ins for all but does not give right to attack government facilities, attacking citizens looting public and private properties.

President Saleh spoke about the attack that targeted al-Nahdin Mosque in the Presidential Palace, where he was hurt with other high officials. He describes the attack as an act of terrorism and a hideous crime committed by people who are only concerned about personal interests even if this means scaring and killing civilians and innocent citizens.

President Saleh said that wise men of Yemen and politicians have to reconsider their attitudes and help get Yemen to the safe shore. He said that the bloodbath will not get anybody power.

President Saleh then hailed all people in Yemen and security forces and military soldiers and saying also God bless those who died in the line of duty in Abyan and other areas.   

He finally thanked all country's that helped Yemen in the crisis, KSA United Arab Emirates and the United States, the EU and the UN.

After the president speech Sana'a and all Yemen's major cities skies were covered with fireworks.

This is the first live speech of President Saleh since the attempt of his assassination in July 4, 2011.
