Al-Qaeda militants abduct medical doctor in north Yemen

Yemeni security source said that some al-Qaeda militants in cooperation with the Islah party militants have kidnapped a doctor and his guards and directed them under gun point to an unknown place on Wednesday.

The source said that the militants sat up an ambush for Colonel medical doctor Ali al-Aghrabi near al-Mil checkpoint while was on his way from Sana’a to Marib city in the north of Yemen.
He said that the militants who are believed to be members of al-Qaeda demanded one of al-Qaeda operatives who was detained by the security authorities in Sana’a last month.
The governor of Marib province Sheikh Naji Ali Al-Zaidi escaped an assassination attempt in Bidbidah district of Marib province in the north of Yemen on Wednesday.
A security source said that some militants affiliated to the Islah Islamic party that is leading the opposition parties in their attempt to oust president Saleh’s regime have sat up tow ambushes for the governor today in Marib province.
The source said that the militants sat up an ambush for the governor while was in his way to visit Bidbidah district of Marib province when they fired extensively at his vehicle wounding his brother.

The source added that the militants also sat up another ambush for the governor in his way back to Marib killing one of his guards and wounding four others.
The source added that the security forces have been tracking down the perpetrators so as to arrest them and present them to justice.
Governor al-Zaidi had survived an assassination attempt last May when some protestors demonstrated in Marib city and one of them could reach to the governor and stabbed him in different places of his body.
